A foundational text for the study and practice of active bystandership is Why We Act by Dr. Catherine Sanderson. Whether this is a re-read or your first time engaging with the book, we invite you to dust it off—or pick it up—and spend the next few weeks reading in preparation for this session. During this one-hour Instructor Exchange, we will come together to reflect on key themes from the book, share insights from our varied professional and personal journeys, and build community across industries, states, and roles. We are honored that Dr. Sanderson will be joining the conversation to hear directly from instructors how her work is influencing their teaching, their agencies, and their approach to active bystandership. The session will focus on translating foundational knowledge into practice—exchanging concrete strategies for strengthening instruction, deepening learner engagement, and elevating how we teach active bystandership in real-world settings.
