Voices of Impact: Inspiring HEROES Testimonials
I am excited to bring this training program to the Department of Detention Facilities, which aligns with our Core Value of Accountability. This program teaches why intervention works, as well as when it is required and appropriate. With the challenges our staff face on a daily basis, this program will remind us the importance of being more supportive of each other and to continue to foster a healthy and safe working environment.
- Superintendent Chris Klein
Thank you so much for the feedback. I really appreciate the time you took to give advice specific to me! Your class was the best I have ever attended and I have been raving about it to everyone since.
- Molly N. Anne Arundel County Detention Program Specialist
We already do things that are uncomfortable, like running toward danger in a staff assistance alarm. Why not be a little emotionally uncomfortable to save our careers.
- Abbey Senn, Anne Arundel County Detention Facility, Training Coordinator
Thank you for your leadership, guidance, and all the support your poured into us these last three days. People are already talking about this after the kick off training earlier this week so the excitement for this is no longer just with me and the Superintendent. We are all so excited for this and the positive impacts Heroes will have here.

I wanted… thank you for the time and effort you put in to produce a great class. To be honest, I was asked if I wanted to attend the training and was a little hesitant. I feel all training is beneficial so I decided to say yes. I was truly unsure what the class was about and assumed it was a “snitch class” or something about reporting misconduct. Ian and Mike did an amazing job at the beginning of class to make the participants aware of what the class is really about. What I took from that was the class is about us, our partners and how to intervene prior to or early on to mitigate mistakes or misconduct. Hopefully when I instruct, I can relay the fact I was hesitant at first as well and how I bought into the program based off what I saw in the training. Throughout the course I was able to gain even more passion in the HEROES program and how it could assist my partners and the department.
The curriculum was so well thought out and I really enjoyed the conversation and participation by the class and instructors. The 80/20 HEROES utilizes is great to facilitate the class and promote interaction. The PACT is a great way to get more information and allows you to have a plan or path to help you get to your end goal of intervening. We currently use something similar at the academy when we’re attempting to get the inmate population to comply. We use ask, explain, present options and act. As basic as those can be, I believe they can be extremely effective.
Once again I just wanted to thank you guys again for a great class. I feel like I took a lot from the training and hope I can pass it on within our department. I’m not sure if there’s a way I can get more involved with the program but if there is please let me know. I would love to be involved anyway possible especially pertaining to corrections. I believe this is a good thing and I hope to see HEROES continues to grow.

Thank you, so much for your words of confidence. I absolutely appreciate the content and layout of this class. The entire National Teams delivery and dedication was superb! A team, I am truly honored to be associated with. As I stated in class, you all are invited to come visit the best institution in the state, "Pelican Bay State Prison"(if for some reason, you weren't aware of our standing). In all seriousness, we would love to have your team in one of our trainings or even just to tour!
Thank you, for the opportunity!

Thank you for everything you’ve done to help us. Walking in the first day, I was unsure of what to expect. You kept it informative, lively, and educational. I caught on quickly because of you. By the end, I was having a great time. Thank you for helping me be able to help those I work with.
